The journey of Daya Memorial Hospital traces back to the year 1981 when a young medical graduate from A.I.I.M.S Delhi, embarked on a humble endeavor to establish a small clinic. This visionary, Dr. R. K. Kapoor, despite harboring aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon, found himself drawn into the realm of private medical practice out of necessity to support himself and alleviate familial responsibilities.
Initially known as Daya Memorial Clinic, this small initiative gradually evolved over the years, fueled by Dr. Kapoor's dedication and the growing healthcare needs of the community. Dr. Kapoor's interactions with the rural population during his medical training and his innate abilities as a practitioner propelled him to success, earning him recognition as one of the leading medical professionals in Munirka village and its surrounding areas.
In 1984 and 1987, the clinic expanded its services to include diagnostics, making it a unique healthcare facility in the region. The addition of a pathology lab and radiology services further enhanced the clinic's capabilities, catering to a wider spectrum of medical needs.
The turning point came in June 1989 with the establishment of Daya Memorial Hospital in rented premises adjacent to the existing clinic. Despite initial financial challenges, the hospital persevered, driven by Dr. Kapoor’s commitment to providing modern healthcare at reasonable prices. Supported by esteemed colleagues like Dr. Rajiv Tandon, Dr. S. N. Tandon, and Dr. Poonam Sharma, among others, the hospital steadily grew, offering specialized medical care to its patrons.
However, in 1995, due to financial pressures and property-related issues, the hospital faced closure. Yet, spurred by public demand and the encouragement of fellow professionals, Daya Memorial Hospital resurfaced towards the end of the year, under the proprietorship of Mrs. Reema Kapoor. This revival marked the beginning of a new chapter for the hospital, which now operated under the aegis of Daya Memorial Charitable Trust, striving to serve the community with renewed vigor and purpose.
Despite its humble beginnings, Daya Memorial Hospital emerged as a beacon of affordable and quality healthcare, offering a range of medical services including surgeries, obstetrics, and general care. Its success lies not only in its state-of-the-art facilities but also in the unwavering dedication of its founder and the support of a committed team of healthcare professionals.
Today, as Daya Memorial’s Multi-specialty Unit – Hygiea Hospital, the institution continues to uphold its founding principles of providing accessible and compassionate healthcare to all, embodying the spirit of service that has defined its legacy for over four decades.
